What’s a better Korean brand of Piano, Young Chang or Samick?

May 26, 2010 @ 2:47 am

One of the Piano salesmen told me to buy a Korean piano(that’s Korean-made, not Chinese or indonesian-made) because their prices are really good and the quality is very good. I was thinking of getting either a Samick or Young Chang, what one is better?

  1. First, I want to assure you that I am Korean and I have over 10 years of experience with pianos. So in short, you can trust my answer :)

In Korea the Young Chang is sort of like.. a national piano brand. You know Korea is famous for every little girl in every single family has learned at least a little bit of piano?(well almost every girl)
And almost all of those families owns a Young Chang.

But in my opinion , I would NOT recommend a Young Chang piano to someone. The sound is a bit hollow and it’s kind of shrill. The pedals are kind of high off the floor, too. Very uncomfortable..

So I recommend buying a Samick.
Or if you’re okay with something other than those two, I really hope you could try a Yamaha. It’s my absolutely favorite piano brand :)
And there are quite a few people saying that Kawaii is good but…. I’ll just stick with my Yamaha ;)

BUT!! Buying an instrument is a very important thing. Since there’s high chances you’ll be stuck with the one you eventually buy, you should choose one that RIGHT for you. DO NOT buy one without trying it out yourself. Because whatever people recommend, it’s actually really up to you. And of course, it depends on how YOU feel about each piano.

So, good luck with finding the suitable piano!
